purity syrup press is the artwork of printmaker abby hann.

trained as both a printmaker and biologist, abby hann’s artistic practice is inspired by the natural world. growing up on the island of newfoundland fostered her fascination with plants and animals from a young age and lead her to study conservation biology at university. she has worked in wild places catching seabirds, hares, and fish, while spending hours analyzing them through a microscope. she discovered printmaking while attending the nova scotia college of art and design. leading a somewhat nomadic life, abby now works mainly with linocut printmaking. drawing from her knowledge of biology and experiences outdoors, her prints depict ecological interactions between plants and animals.

abby is also certified as a visual arts and science teacher. she currently works as the art teacher at a small school in a remote, indigenous community in northern canada. she teaches private workshops upon request.
